Born in Jamaica, Queens to Grenadian parents Nigel Sylvester's life changed forever at the age of 11 when fate had him run across an X-games even on TV. “I didn't even know stuff like that existed,” recalls Sylvester, who went straight outside and started trying tricks on his bike. Which at times made him the target of derision among his contemporaries in his Jamaica, Queens neighborhood.
But Sylvester stuck with and went on to become the best MBX rider in the world, doing much to change BMX riding from a cult hobby into an internationally recognized sport.
Today, Sylvester is an internationally recognized icon who is setting the pace in the BMS biking world. “I know that once I do a trick, people are going to follow suit,: says Sylvester. “I always want to be the first person to land a trick that hasn't been done yet.”
